We found the people to be incredibly friendly, the children’s programs were excellent, we found a Sunday School class that we loved and quickly made friends. All our earlier qualms had all but disappeared.
9. Tree Town (Part 1)
If this makes any sense, the only way I can describe it is that the church was our dream church and also our greatest nightmare at the same time. It had friendly people, the children’s programs, a kind pastor, it was Southern Baptist, but it was stuck in time
8. Division Part Two
The business meeting started, and the pastor turned it over to us. My husband explained to the church that we felt like it was time for us to leave the church and that we were resigning our positions, effective immediately
7. Division
He was a dynamic man. He preached long and loud. We eventually realized that he preached the same sermon over and over, he just changed the title.
6. Surround Me With Love
We were young and in love. I couldn’t wait to marry him, and on my 18th birthday, he proposed to me. We were married one month before I turned 19 years old.
5. Punished
“My heart pounded, my palms started sweating. I couldn’t wait to get out of the room.”
4. A New Home
“The year was 1992, the month was January. The carpet was yellow. His boots were gray eel skin”
3. Leaving
I’ll never forget my daddy’s words… “you never leave in the midst of trouble.”
2. Church Shy
People often ask me… “when are you going to get involved again and join a church?” My answer is always, “I’m still a little church shy”.
